Tomatoes from home! – Virender makes it (Day 103)

It really broke my heart when cyclone Laila killed Fathima – and then leaving behind the plants I nursed from seed was the final blow. But I told my mother to take care of them, and she did her best. On the bright side, Virender was uninjured, and he was the only one to actually bring forth fruit.

So here are the photos of Virender’s tomatoes taken by my mother using her cell phone camera – for those who took an interest as I reared them:

Here’s how the tomatoes looked on the vine:

Beautiful aren't they?
Wonder if the seeds will be saved

Of the four indeterminate plants (Gabbar Singh, Basanti, Chandramouli and Sajid), my mother again tells me that only one has survived. She didn’t know which one. Here he (or she) is:

Grow and Prosper

I have a feeling it’s Basanti – she was the healthiest of them all. So that’s what I’ll call her :) I hope she does well and is still there when I get back. It’s her own destiny now and I’m honored to have had a part in it.

I haven’t yet started growing plants here in Florida. But now that I think of it, it’s probably a good time to do so. Let’s see.
