Islamic Terrorism in India is a complete myth

Everyone knows that India is a target of Islamic terrorism right? Listening to the news hype or the blog conversations on pro-hindu sites (that’s not an insult btw), you can’t help but feel that the Muslim extremists are taking over India and bombing innocent men, women and children all over the place every day. But there’s one teensy little problem with this scenario.

Islamic terrorism makes up less than 9% of all terror incidents in India! And almost all of it is in the Kashmir region.

Now that can’t possibly be true right? I mean what about all the terrorist blasts in 2009 in the rest of India? Except that there were none. Yup, that’s right. Not one damn terrorist attack in India in 2009 outside of Kashmir that we can attribute to Islamic fanatics.

How do I know this? While researching data for a reply to a blog comment – see, I do the research :) – I found that the US government has set up a worldwide terrorism tracking system which gives a wealth of information regarding terrorist attacks globally. It’s free, publicly accessible, and users can filter by country, date range, type of terror attacks, casualties, groups responsible, location within the country, generate heat maps, get victim data and many more options and you can mix n match to get the exact info you’re looking for.

It turns out, that the majority of terror attacks in India is carried out by the Naxals. Here is the complete map of terrorism in India in 2009. A total of 703 attacks.

Terror attacks in India - 2009
Terror attacks in India - 2009

When you filter by “Islamic Extremism”, the map changes to this with the number dropping to just 63. I got a bit of a shock on seeing this really.

Islamic Terrorism in India - Where is it?
Islamic Terrorism in India - Where is it?

Ouch..where are all the Islamic bombings? You know, the “terrorists” which our government is trying so hard to save us from. The terrorism which has every citizen in India in a funk afraid of their own shadow. It’s in the damn Naxal belt that’s where – go get em!

But please stop this crap about Islamic militants. Yeah, it happens now and then but hardly kills anyone. Not that we Indians particularly care about lives being lost. Otherwise we would have done something about train accidents in India which have already killed 285 people in this year alone.

Of course, this robs people of the satisfaction of blaming all violence in India on the Muslims. Hopefully at least some people will take note.

  1. While I should be glad that you no longer claim to be a Chrisitian, I am sad that you missed the teachings of Jesus at such a wide (or wild?) tangent. Even his worst critics have not come up with your findings.

  2. Although the 9% number is significant, its interesting to note that most of it is restricted to mainly J&K.

Infact, even globally, the Muslim terrorist myth is just that when you look at hard statistics. In the US only 6% of incidents are related to Muslim extremists and in Europe a grand total of 0.4% for about the same 6-7 year period post 9/11

    http://www.loonwatch.com/2010/01/not-all-terrorists-are-muslims/

Infact, the major countries that are affected by muslim extremists are Muslim majority countries themselves like Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Yemen.

Kudos Bhagwad for shining a light into this dark corner. Now if only our media and politicos were smart enough to do the same and focus on REAL issues like Naxals where we are REALLY loosing a lot of people.
Infact even in terms of death, South Asia Terror portal shows that its almost 10 times the death toll for the last three years and this is included J&K.

      Naive response.
      Using percentages skews the result.
How many 26/11 or 9/11’s do you need? Just one is enough per decade. By your logic and the author’s this would be less than 1%, and then happy days! Islam is not a threat!

It is this very thinking that India was brutalised by Islamic marauding savages that took gleeful delight in killing hundreds of thousands of Hindus. This is according to Arab scriptures that accompanied the savages.

  3. Author is either living in self deception or a fraud , he could have gone one step further and said “there is no Islamik terrorism in world ”
“Yeah, it happens now and then but hardly kills anyone” there can not be any bigger lie than this
In india since 1989 more than 2000 hindu -Sikhs are killed by Islamik terrorists in Kashmir alone , more than 300000 have been made refugee in their own country , for 3 continuous days all mosques in Kashmir played the same message for non muslims to leave Kashmir on Loudspeakers , this is reality , leave aside the blasts in the cities , 164 killed in 26/11 , many on mumbai rail blasts , Godhra train burning , Delhi High court blasts , go and count all of them before posting your “Research ” ,
Instead intelligence agrees that there is home grown terror network of Indian Mujahiddin , the mentality of Jehad is inseparable to Madarasa teaching , Quran and Islam , wherever there is muslim population terrorism is bound to take place , yes Naxals are there , but no one can ignore Islamik terrorism yes except these opportunistic liberals , when people need strong action against Islamik terrorism these will shift the blame to naxals and when the naxals will be hunted by Govt then these people will call them “Tribal Freedom fighters ” ,
Pakistan and Bangladesh share border with india , more than 90% muslims voted for creation of Pakistan but not that much left the country , we have people who don’t like this country and want to kill kafirs , the sacred islamik duty , Ignoring them is going to harm ourselves

  4. How does the US define as ‘terrorist attacks’?
Why are you relying on US data; the very people who have an incentive to skew the data in Muslim’s favour?

Also, suppose the data is correct, this cannot be used to give Muslims a free pass, anywhere in the world, especially India. Given the vast amount of resources that are spent globally on wiping out Islamic terror, your data only indicates their lack of success in carrying out terrorist attacks. The data only indicates actual successful terrorist attacks. What about the number that has been thwarted?

Drop our guard, and the result would be predictable. They are like vermin always looking for some way to get into into to kill infidels. Have you forgotten about 26/11? They saw an unmonitored sea route into Mumbai and the Islamic terrorists killed specifically Hindus and Jews! (Watch the National Geographic account, when those Islamic bastards asked a Turkish couple if they were Muslims, when they responded in the affirmative; their lives were spared).

Muslims are brainwashed to put their religion ahead of their country of residence. And should Hindus forget the damage that their religion has done to India? And continue as we have for the past 1000 years; steadily losing Hindu lives to this menace, which as no place on this subcontinent.

VS Naipaul in his book ‘Amongst the Believers’, stated:

“Islam is in its origins an Arab religion. Everyone not an Arab who is a Muslim is a convert. Islam is not simply a matter of conscience or private belief. It makes imperial demands. A convert’s world view alters. His Holy places are in Arab lands; his sacred language is Arabic. His idea of history alters. He rejects his own; he becomes, whether he likes it or not, a part of the Arab story. The convert has to turn away from everything that is his. The disturbance for societies is immense, and even after thousand years can remain unresolved; the turning away has to be done again and again. People develop fantasies about who and what they are; and in the Islam of converted countries there is an element of neurosis and nihilism.”

The Islamic world goes into revolt and mass demonstrations when a cartoon of their prophet is published (which was done through the last 1000 years). But did they go on mass demonstrations on 26/11, the attack on India’s parliament or 9/11?

The original Indian culture was rooted in Hinduism. A culture that is open and universalist. The demise of India was best captured by Will Durant:

“The Mohameddan conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history. It is a discouraging tale, for its evident moral is that civilization is a precarious thing, whose delicate complex of order and liberty, culture and peace may at any time be overthrown by barbarians from without or multiplying within. The Hindus had allowed their strength to be wasted in internal division and war; they had adopted religions like Buddhism and Jainism, which unnerved them for the tasks of life; they failed to organize their forces for the protection of their frontiers and their capitals, their wealth and their freedom, from the hordes of Scythians, Huns, Afghans, and Turks hovering about India’s boundaries and waiting for national weakness to let them in. For four hundred years (600 – 1000 AD) India invited conquest: and at last it came.”
    He went on to write:
“This is the secret of the political history of modern India. Weakened by division, it succumbed to invaders, it lost all power of resistance, and took refuge in supernatural consolations; it argued that both mastery and slavery were superficial delusions, and concluded that freedom of the body or the nation was hardly worth defending in so brief a life. The bitter lesson that may be drawn from this tragedy is that eternal vigilance is the price of civilization. A nation must love peace, but keep its powder dry.”

Now that we know what caused the demise of India; we will not repeat our grave error. Islamic in its current form has no place in India.

Actually, yes. The past is past. Those who committed the crimes are dead. Those who were affected are dead also. Let it go.

I really doubt if Muslims are going to invade India on horses now :)

Can you tell me based the highest number of terrorist attacks for each religion?

        Answer is Islam.

The hypocrisy of Muslims is in defense of their faith.

The number enslaved by ARABS islam, over 100million. The countries that where TAKEN over by ARABS islam, too many to count. The number enslaved, raped and converted too many to count. The number of texts in the koran about killing and oppresing non muslims, too many to count.

The penalty to leave islam, is death.

What muslim in india try to do is TO MAKE EXCUSES. History itself DICTATES the truth. History itself shows ISLAMIC TERROR for at least 1000years. From persia to egpyt, to nigeria to burma, its well written. Only islam DOES NOT ACCEPT ANY OTHER FAITH.

the only question you need to ask muslim is ANY OTHER FAITH valid as ISLAM?..Answer NONE. So all this bullshit about ISLAM is peace, is the propaganda the NAZIS used. HISTORY shows what islam is about.

TODAY, that history is being altered by……..THE CONVERTS. The people who do not beleive that islam is like this, that mohamed is like that, or how islam spread…..THEY DO NOT ACCEPT…so to make is better for themselves, they DELUDE themselves with ISLAM IS PEACE..the reason why their are attacks is because SOMEONE ELSE IS ATTACKING US….the jews, the christians, the pagans, the martians, the athiests, the capitalist, the hindus the buddhist the jains….etc etc…

You only need to understand history, that the MUSLIMS OF INDIA, are slaves of ARAB IDEOLOGY, they are nothing more than workers of ARABS, where they have to adhere to ARAB law, culture, lang, histyory, origins, wedding, food, and must face arabs five times a day. And in ARABIA non arab muslim have NO rights, cant marry arab women, cant have property in arabia, have to get sponsered to work in arabia, and in effect are nothing but WORKERS of THE ARAB ELITE…..and in the koran..it states..

GOD CHOSE ARABS as the best of all people. What do muslim converts want to beleive…..ALLAH sees everyone as ONE…..

but the truth is differnt. ISLAM does not allow any jdugment on itself, so where is the truth?

  8. Naxalism cannot be considered as terrorism and compared to Islamic terrorism. Naxalites are insurgents while islamic terrorists are terrorists.

Insurgents attack government institutions, government officials and those people considered part of the government apparatus. They don’t have a grouse against the citizens and usually enjoy the support of portions of the citizenry. They have some clear objectives and would be willing to stop their violence if some sort of understanding is reached with the state. Also their activities are restricted to a particular area where they enjoy support.

Terrorists on the other hand attack both the citizens and the state indiscriminately. Their objective is to spread fear among the people. They have unchangeable hatred for the people who they attack. They don’t hope to achieve anything concrete other than to terrorize the population. So they won’t be amenable to any peace deal with the state and can’t be stopped other than through force. They activities will not be restricted to an area and would be targeted at high population areas for maximum casualties, which would be cities.

Naxalism is concentrated mainly in the tribal areas of Eastern India where they are fighting the state apparatus. Islamic terrorists have unending hatred for all non-muslims and conduct attacks to kill them, with cities being their prime areas for the attacks. Islamic terrorism is pure evil and cannot be compared to other violent activities.

Sorry – taking a life is taking a life. If my wife is killed in a Naxal attack, do you think I’ll give a fig about the subtleties of Naxalism vs Terrorism?

If the end result of Naxalism is death, it’s every bit as bad as terrorism no matter how you dress it up.

That is the point. Your wife will not be killed by naxalites unless she becomes joins the state apparatus and ventures to naxalite area . But with terrorists, one doesn’t have an option. One doesn’t have to act against them to be attacked. One’s existence alone makes one a target for them. That is a huge difference.

Oh please. I myself have had my train affected once by an explosion caused by the Naxals. This myth of the Naxals being these noble people only affecting government agencies is bullshit. They need to be tracked and hunted down like dogs.

Second, if my wife is a government official, then that makes it ok to kill her eh? What has she done? What have most government officials done to deserve death?

There is no excuse for Naxal violence. There is no excuse for violence period.
