Why do some people hate Gandhi?

It’s hard to imagine what anyone can have against Gandhi. He was entirely harmless. He didn’t hold political power and never forced anyone to follow his beliefs. One might question some of his principles, but no one who’s read “My experiments with Truth” can deny his sincerity in following them.

Gandhi - Violence leads to more violence
Gandhi – Violence leads to more violence

And yet with his birthday in 2010, there are those with whom Gandhi has fallen entirely out of fashion. Mainly with India’s right wing (and before anyone complains, that’s not an insult. I’m using the phrase “right wing” as generally understood and as defined by Wikipedia. So don’t take offence when none is intended.)

I’ve heard him called a rogue, the destroyer of India, a traitor, a betrayer and what not. Of course, the virulent right wing elements are a minority compared to the rest. But if you listen to these people, you get the picture that Gandhi had horns and slithered around on his belly.

There are many who idolize Nathuram Godse – the crazy fellow who was against Gandhi and who assassinated a defenseless man with a gun. To me, actions speak far louder than words. Never mind what Godse stood for. If the end result is the killing of a someone who never preached violence and never harmed him or anyone else, I want no part of what he was smoking. Such people point to the speech he gave in his defense. Even a cursory reading leads me to wonder if was entirely sane. Here’s a small extract:

All this reading and thinking led me to believe it was my first duty to serve Hindudom and Hindus both as a patriot and as a world citizen. To secure the freedom and to safeguard the just interests of some thirty crores (300 million) of Hindus would automatically constitute the freedom and the well-being of all India, one fifth of human race.

Say what? You mean as long as Hindus are happy, it doesn’t matter if Buddhists, Sikhs, Christians, Parsis, Muslims and Jains are miserable eh? I get the feeling Godse would have gladly sided with Hitler. After all, as long as the non Jews and fully naturalized Germans were happy, then automatically Germany will be happy no?

Here’s another beauty:

This conviction led me naturally to devote myself to the Hindu Sanghtanist ideology  and programme, which alone, I came to believe, could win and preserve the national independence of Hindustan, my Motherland, and enable her to render true service to humanity as well.

Beware of the man who recommends only one way of thinking to the exclusion all others. He’s either god himself, or a fanatic.

Now I may not agree with everything Gandhi said. I’m not sure ahimsa or non violence would have helped the Jews against Hitler for example and he himself agreed that if ever violence were acceptable it would be against an evil of that magnitude. But that doesn’t mean I don’t understand his main argument. That violence breeds more violence. Even violence for a just cause. It’s a double edged sword that merely deflects the injustice to another group of people if at all.

It’s ironic that when the entire world admires Gandhi and the president of the US has a portrait of him in his office, he’s attacked most in his own country. Gandhi was a man who led a movement of the kind the world has never seen. As a member of humanity, I gotta admire the guy irrespective of his nationality.

Interestingly I’ve noticed that the same people who hate Gandhi also hate Mother Teresa! One day I’d like to find out the real cause of this connection. It’s so absurd and out of whack that the explanation must be equally strange. Perhaps someone can enlighten me…

Before you start hating gandhiji ask yourself can you give up your family and your wealth for your country or a state I think I haven’t met any one who can give up all of that And walk so many km to comfort and shows a path of humanity and peace shame on people like you who open their mouth without thinking

  2. What an irony that the maximum venom against Selfless Souls is spewed by one who studied in an institution [IIT Delhi] built thanks to Nehru’s vision. Gandhi’s views are from a 5th Dimension of Wisdom, based on the Law of Karma.
Some examples from the corollaries of the Law:

    1. We become what we hate: Godse worshippers like RK Sharma are becoming the same Hafiz Saeed type killers that they hate.

    2. As you sow so you reap: 30,000 Americans die of gunshot wounds every year. The sum total of Americans killed by firearms and Americans lost to crimes like drugs and kidnapping is well above 30 million since WW2. The same number of people their soldeirs would have killed in Vietnam, Korea, Gulf.

    3. Muslims have a growing population in India but educated upper caste Hindus commit the abhorrent act of female infanticide. Hindu families have lost tens of millions of girls.
To which family will they have to be reborn? Muslim.

    4. Muslims who act with violence are suffering terribly in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Had India not been partitioned, imagine Afghan warlords running amok with Bangaldeshi footsoldiers in ever urban center of India. There may not have been even BCom degree in IITs….

It is easy for fluoride sipping dollar earners to share in American bloodlust Karma and hate Bapu but in the true spirit of Bapu, I would like to invite RK Sharma to rethink views of Bapu in the light of Vedas and Sufism [especially Ibn Arabi].

So who is forcing you or anyone else to listen? If you don’t like someone’s philosophy then just ignore it! There’s no excuse to go and kill someone just because you disagree with them.

  4. Why people hate Ghandi:
    http://sindhudesh.blogspot.ca/2004/12/gandhi-traitor.html

In short, they see him as a hypocritical British-loving traitor who cared more about adhering to his own philosophy than the immediate well-being of people. Google “fuck ghandi” and watch the penn and teller video for a small taste of ghandi’s perversions.

    Why people hate mother Teresa:
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2287427/Was-Mother-Teresa-saintly-Researchers-spark-controversy-claiming-care-sick-dubious-handling-cash-suspicious.html

In short, she was a terrible person who collected hundreds of millions of dollars for the catholic church yet spent almost none of it helping the people she claimed to help. Instead of food and medicine, the poor we’re given prayers and Virgin Mary pendants, as mother Teresa believed their suffering was a good thing (literally).

Seriously, just read about the criticisms of these characters and not the overly glorified books and movies we all see on tv. Then you will know why people hate them.

I won’t go into deciding the truth/falsehood of these allegations. The fact is that even if Gandhi cared more about his own philosophy than the well being of people is not a reason to hate him.

He didn’t hurt anyone, kill anyone, or abuse anyone. And if a person doesn’t do these things, no one should hate him.

  6. Mahatma Gandhi was the most noblest of persons of that time and will always be, most of the people just don’t go by facts as a “jahil gamar” whatever is told by their parents or relations they belive that only that is where the real evil lies if you belive, Hitler who always wanted his thoughts and practices to be followed by everyone similarly these people imbibe some essence of it.
That is whatever their closest have practiced they will follow the same, same is the reason for terrorism whatever was told by their forfathers they are following the same keeping aside all the facts.
Gandhi never divided India whosoever says that its a ___ , though there are many facts that “violence breeds more violence” but still we never pondered the fact.
Jinhah was the real evil as you all know though some of them will be offended by this but facts are facts.
    1. Gandhi believed in non-violence then how could he have asked to massacre those who are supporting division(simple fact).
    2. Gandhi supported the Pakistan giving some amount(35 crore) at that time for those who were affected with “the division”, the real essence of responsibility he felt he did but the point we ignored that his “philosophy of putting enemy to shame for his deeds” was actually practiced and in return it was responsibility of Jinah to support those Indians who lost most of theirs in division through some relief funds, so Gandhi was correct in his practice.
    3. He supported Britishers in world war to fight Hitler was also evident, hitler was not in practice similar to Britishers he was far more cunning and shrewd (facts massacre ,plots, bombing and evil experiments which he did against whole humanity and not just the allies but don’t get moved by the fact he supported Aryans ,he only supported rich and white who again should be an Aryan).
    4. Gandhi never said anything against “Bhagat Singh” he only supported the fact that as per the law(even if its of Britishers) some one bombs in public place should be trailed well some may say that it was not intended for killing but again how could you justify it today if some terrorist do something similar, he can support it as an act of alerting the countrymen to make people fear about their terrorist organization but won’t it be punishable plus Bhagat Singh also killed “John Saunders” won’t that should be punishable some of you might support his deed as an act against britishers but why murdering one petty official will it had solved any problem.
So, if you support Bhagat Singh i feel sorry for your mindset, he was outrageous and somewhat foolish.
    5. Non supporting of Netaji though personally for me Netaji is a hero he achieved something which even today one cannot imagine but still who he was fighting against “were they Britishers” ?
No! only Indian soldiers because even if some thousand would have died it would not have affect the britishers as more would have been recruited so exactly Indians themselves were our own enemy in the battlefield.

I am not going to comment anything on Gandhi. All I want to put forward is that, you cannot call someone a fool just because they are voicing their views. You cannot comment on their upbringing. Each one here has their individual opinion. And yes, if you want to put forward your argument you have to make sense but, that does not mean others can call you names. FYI, there is some difference in OPINION and AGRUMENT.

  8. We can comment any great personality or against any one because we are not under British Rule or any other King.In those days mass people have no courage to say something against British even the Print Media also. So we should be know social-economic -political atmosphere & its impact on mass & Indian leaders then one are able to do justification towards to our freedom fighters. No doubt, Gandhiji had committed some mistake like not to support to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru & ashfak ulla khan, Not to respect to Netaji Subhash,Not to elect Prime Minister to Sardar VallabhBhai Patel. He favoured to Western cultured Jawahar lal Nehru who was not aware about real problems of Indians. Nehruji was hurried to be a Prime Minister.Because this selfishness, they had compromised number of act with a weak nation who was totally tired by two world war. Gandhiji & Nehruji were f ailed to take benefit of this actual situation of that time. Thus we should be unbiased.

  10. Firstly, I strongly believe that Gandhi inspired people of India. No doubt, he was a great leader. But When it comes to freedom struggle he was not the only one, there are many others who sacrificed more than Gandhi did. Moreover it was not because of gandhi we got indepedence. Economic crisis of British and UNO was the reason for our Independence. If non violence was the biggest weapon then why Indian goverments are not bending for that. Is that Indian goverenment (Specially the nehru dynasty who had strong support of congress) is more merciless than British.

I dont hate Gandhi, but I hate his anti hindu nature. There are enuf proofs to show how he was using his weapon of satyagraha for muslims and pakistan. Nataram Godse was right in destroying such evil. But Still that evil exists in India because of people who support minority principle. It is not muslims or chrintians, it is Hindu’s who are very less in this world.

Just want to say, Support Hindutva, Hindutva means not attacking other religions, Hindutva means Going together, reciever everyone as friends. Hindutva means not converting some one to follow the religion forcefully(Like how muslims and chritians used to do). Hindutva is olser than other religions, respect it.
