Interesting thread to read. I am trying to find out whether there are different country versions (i.e. different 3G provider versions) of the Kindle Keyboard 3G. I know that the US version is different - but are all the other countries the same? Like, can I buy the German version and 3G access also fully works in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, and anywhere else? And the other way around?

Or in other words, are there two versions: one for the USA and another one for everywhere else? Or is it multiple different versions, depending on the country?

Does anybody know? I am currently weighing up options, with friends travelling internationally, whether it makes sense to have them buy one for me and bring it back home to New Zealand.

Thanks a lot in advanve for any replies

Ratan / Bhagwad/Anyone

How did you get your Kindle with Wifi and 3G to work in India? I bought mine in the UK, where it worked just fine.

However, back in India (Pune), although I get the 3G symbol and solid connectivity bars showing on the top right, I still can't access the Kindle Store/Wiki/Google etc. Please help!

I tried several combination of Tamil files to read in 'Kindle Keyboard 3G'. There were all combination of files, PDFs with scanned tamil pages (showing content as image), PDFs with typed Tamil content with non true type fonts, PDFs with true type fonts, PDFs with Unicode fonts (Latha.ttf), a text file with Tamil characters.

Kindle rendered all the above as image, including PDFs with unicode characters. The text file with Tamil characters were displayed just as question marks. So, this leaves me with a conclusion that Kindle by default does not have Tamil fonts installed. When a page is to be read, it tries to recognise the content and if it fails it just shows as an image. When it recognise the contents and it has no way to show as an image as in case of a text file, the contents are interpreted and shown as question marks.

I have seen other discussion threads where one has to jailbreak the kindle to install Tamil Unicode fonts and then using a Tamil unicode document just as good as it was done in English with automatic text wrap based on font size.

Thought to put it here as it might be helpful for others.

Amazon hasn't released a color kindle yet - not with e-ink the way a regular kindle is. If you're in India, I suggest you buy the Infibeam for your man: http://www.infibeam.com/Pi

It's local so you'll have faster delivery and probably cheaper too!
