Sorry, but we can NEVER Fight “Terror with Terror”

I can’t believe what I’m hearing. Our defense minister now thinks that “You have to neutralize terrorists with terrorists”! This is a shocking statement from someone who clearly has no idea what India stands for, and whose concepts of right and wrong are seriously messed up. This statement is an outright betrayal of the very spirit of India, and here’s why.

Terrorists Explicitly Target Innocents

A terrorist’s modus operandi – as opposed to a soldier’s – is to seek out and instill terror in the minds of people who have no connection whatsoever to their supposed “grievances”. They do this by randomly targeting civilians going about their daily lives, and who are completely unaware of the danger threatening them.

This is a line that we simply cannot cross. I don’t care how much you’ve been hurt or what your cause is. You do not deliberately kill innocent people. Period. One can talk about how this is war, and how it involves collateral damage and whatnot, but that is not the focus of terrorism. Terrorists actively locate and murder innocents to create as much of chaos as possible. This has nothing to do with war. It has nothing to do with “intelligence” and counter terrorist operations. In terrorism, individuals are not “collateral damage”, but the primary target.

Sorry Mr. Parrikar – but with statements like this, you have no business being an official representative of this country. As a citizen of India, I have no interest in being part of a country that wantonly singles out civilians as part of some misplaced “tough on terror” stand.

In terrorism, individuals are not “collateral damage”, but the primary target.

If you want to go after terrorists, fine. If you want to launch a war against a country’s army, fine. But you cannot focus your attacks on civilians. Mind you – a terrorist is someone whose single minded intent is to murder as many civilians as possible. Ask yourself – is that what we want to become as a country?

Have we sunk so low that we elect a defense minister who wants to focus his attacks and resources on robbing civilians of their life even when they’re going about their business peacefully? Or is he so blinded by hate that he now thinks that everyone in a country is fair game?

I think that might be it. Parrikar probably feels that every single person in Pakistan is a terrorist and is fair game. Including children, farmers, accountants, and housewives. Maybe in his eyes, all of them are responsible for Pakistan sending terrorists into India, and therefore deserve to be wiped out. If not, how can he spout such nonsense? And how is he tolerated by his own party? What is even more shocking is the number of people supporting this kind of crazy talk. I’ve seen hundreds of comments from Indians proudly supporting his remarks.

As if killing civilians is something to be proud of. It’s not. It’s disgusting, criminal, and no right thinking person should have anything to do with it.

  1. i think he meant that we should respond by attacking the terrorists..not innocent civilians; as you rightly point out, that to attack innocent civilians goes against the very soul of India…..we could never do it.

But the word “terrorist” has a very specific meaning – it means those who attack innocent people and create terror in their minds. If he said that India needs to use terrorists, there’s no mistaking exactly what he meant.

  2. You cannot fight hypocrisy with hypocrisy. Why do such objections arise only when a certain party is in power? India’s ruling prince from 2004-2014 Rahul ji used to say that “Hindu terrorists” are more dangerous than “Muslim terrorists”. Have you written a blog complaining about that?

Moreover Defense Minister has only made a statement. We know for a fact that Left wingers routinely use terror armies to massacre all across the country.

I am not saying that the point you are raising is wrong. I am only saying that if you speak out about “the right thing” only when the BJP is in power, it is hypocrisy. This one sided outrage against BJP is the reason that the BJP has become dominant across the country. It took a while, but people slowly began to notice that no matter what happens, there is a class of people who only blame the BJP. And they go to ridiculous lengths. I remember you saying that a pub “attack” by Rame Sene in Mangalore in which 0 people were killed and 0 were injured is a bigger issue than the attack by Muslim fundamentalists who chopped off the hands of a professor. When people see such extreme hypocrisy, they start sympathizing with BJP.

People see that every single day, every word said by every BJP man is dissected endlessly for criticism. I think a hundred oceans worth of ink have flowed in cursing the BJP’s “communal politics”. Not even a fraction of that much ink is spent on attacking brazenly caste based parties or even brazenly communal Muslim parties like IUML and AIMIM. And even less ink is spent on attacking left wingers who are making rivers of blood flow across the country. People see that. Everything is the fault of those Hindutvavadis. Everyone else is god’s gift to humanity.

I’m sorry, but if you really want the BJP pushed out, people like you will have to become a little more balanced.

This may surprise you to hear, but who said I want the BJP pushed out? I think the BJP is doing a great job so far – much better than the UPA. Honestly, when writing this article it never even occurred to me that the BJP was in power!

I just feel that the defence minister of India making statements that we need to use terrorists is terrible.

The BJP came into existence on the very basis of blaming the Congress. And that has been the core ideology of the BJP ever since. You can watch any political debate where any BJP person if questioned about any issue, ultimately (if not straight away) comes down to blaming the Congress.

The BJP didn’t even exist when the Congress was formed. So, obviously the core ideology of the Congress could have nothing to do with anything about the BJP. Yes, there are a few Congress people who always blame the BJP. But the very ideology of the BJP is about blaming the Congress. So you can understand where the real hypocrisy lies (in your own comment too).

  3. lol

‘sir we have a lot of people that feel very negatively about our country and wish to get violent revenge, what shall we do’

    ‘lets create more’

idk man, i know i’m always late to mention the moral dimension but i think it’s blatantly clear that terrorism is not morally ok. it’s just shocking how stupid this idea is…

does he mean to make a ‘terrorist group’ out of just angry civilians that will hunt terrorists? and if so, why not just make it a police task force instead? those angry civilians will probably end up killing a lot of innocents anyhow…
