Day 69: Saying Goodbye to Tomatoes…RIP Fathima

I’ve delayed this post for quite a while now, mainly because I’ve only just managed to access the pictures I took just before leaving India.

I have sad news for you. My beloved Fathima, the apple of my eye and most promising of all the four, on whom I have lavished tender care was killed by the cyclone – Laila – that hit Chennai. I woke up to find Fathima all bent over and I rushed out to straighten her up, but the damage must have been done, because in a couple of days this is what happened to her:

Fathima killed by Laila...
Fathima killed by Laila...

She was the farthest from the house and so must have been hit by the storm the hardest. Sad to see something you’ve nurtured from the very seed come to an end like this. My mom said she’d give it another couple of days to see if a recovery was possible, but till now nothing…

The other three have survived quite decently and here they are:

Remaining Three - Virender, Chun Li, Noah

Virender’s tomatoes in particular suffered no damage whatsover and seem to be thriving:

Just the day before leaving, I also transplanted my Tamina seedlings into buckets. Here they are:

I hope they grow up nicely. Mani will water them everyday and keep filling up the bucket as they grow so a strong root system develops. Let’s see where it goes from there…
