My UK tomato seeds have finally arrived! I didn’t think they’d get through customs, but they did. I had mentioned earlier<\/a> that my current four plants are determinate varieties. They’ll give one burst of fruit and then it’s over. I wanted plants that would give me fruits throughout the year. Unlike temperate climates, there’s no frost in Chennai and so the weather is ideal. So I ordered the “Tomato Tamina” variety online<\/a> and today I got them! Here’s the front cover:<\/p>\n

They had nice detailed instructions at the back – unlike the Indian seed packets I’ve bought till now. Last time I germinated my seeds in eggshells<\/a>, but I didn’t have any immediately at hand today. I’ve started crushing them and composting the ones I use<\/a> and had none to spare. So after looking around desperately, I found the only thing at hand was an ice cube tray. I soaked eight seeds for an hour, filled eight slots in the tray with compost and then inserted the seeds into the center of each.<\/p>\n

I wasn’t able to find a way to create drainage holes, so I have to be very careful not to over water them. I used a spray with the “mist” option, and hopefully this will not be excessive. So here they are!<\/p>\n

I’ve filled an extra slot. I’ll use that to test how wet it is underneath to determine how much water to spray on each morning. Let’s hope I have as much luck as I did with Fathima, Virender, Chun Li and Noah!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
