Last night I had my first ever lucid dream, and it was a beauty! It happened exactly as I imagined it.<\/p>\n

I was back in India and suddenly I wondered if I was in a dream or not. Based on my last post on the subject<\/a>, I used the “watch” technique to figure out whether it was a dream or reality.<\/p>\n

So I raised my left hand and saw a watch on my wrist. This alone should have alerted me to the fact that I was dreaming since I don’t wear a watch in real life, but it didn’t. The time in the watch was 9:10 or something. I looked away and then immediately looked back. Lo and behold, the time was now 10:15. So I had it – I was dreaming! At this point in the dream I got really excited. I was in a dream and knew it. It was a lucid dream.<\/p>\n

So now what to do? I always wanted to fly, and I knew there were no laws of physics to hold me back. So I jumped…and crashed back to “earth” :D . Turns out my dream was imposing the rules on me whether I wanted to or not.<\/p>\n

At this point, the dream began to fade a bit. I felt my bed pressing me, pulling me back to reality. I wanted to stay longer, so I tried to focus hard on the person closest to me in the dream – my wife. I looked at her and by concentrating on her face, was able to buy a few more precious seconds. But it was a losing battle and moments later I found myself back on my bed, squirming in disbelief at the experience!<\/p>\n

Later I realized I should have tried harder to create “dream” sensations that would have kept me even longer. Like rubbing my hands together to generate heat or something like that. I’m certainly going to keep that in mind the next time it happens. Maybe I’ll get to fly too! I wish I could mold the dream world to my will. Perhaps that will come with practice. Or maybe I just need to accept and enjoy what my brain gives me and not try and do anything against it. Let’s see.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
