Do you sympathize with the Naxals? – Opinon Poll

There still seem to be people these days who sympathize with the Naxalites. I personally find this very hard to understand. Naxals certainly don’t represent the poor people. If they did, they would use their 1400 cr revenue stream to feed poor people and improve lives instead of killing innocents.

Most people seem to ignore or disbelieve the fact that India and China together have lifted 125 million people out of slum conditions in less than ten years. A completely unprecedented achievement by any standard. India’s contribution to this remarkable progress is 48%! So much for those who cry about our country benefiting only the rich.

The stated goal of the Naxalites is to overthrow the government of India by the force of arms. This might appeal to those who feel that our country  is rotten at the core and needs an overhaul. But do you really think the Naxalites of all people are qualified to do a better job? What the hell happened to following Gandhi’s ideals?

If they're poor, where is the money for guns coming from?
If they're poor, where is the money for guns coming from?

But let’s grant them the benefit of the doubt. Let’s say that Naxals are indeed struggling against the autocracy of the state. Does that give them the right to kill even one innocent person?

People like to complain that our government didn’t care about the loss of lives during the Bhopal gas tragedy. Why then, are they turning a blind eye to the more than 10,000 people killed by Naxals in just five years? Are those lost lives not valuable? Let me ask a simple question:

Do you think Naxals are justified in taking even one innocent life if they are suffering an injustice – no matter how large?

If the answer is “yes”, then how are they different from terrorists? After all, terrorists have their own reasons too. They feel they’re being persecuted and trampled upon. No one becomes a suicide bomber for fun.

Our Indian democracy with all it’s flaws is still a miracle. Let’s improve upon it instead of trying to tear it down. It’s taken us long enough as it is to reach where we are. Nation building doesn’t happen in a couple of years, or even decades. Let’s stay the course and look at the bright side of things. Because there are lots of bright things to look at, even as we continue the fight to improve our lot.

So what do you think? Take the poll!

  1. :) I don't sympathize with naxals Bhagwad..But i sympathize and empathize with their cause, why they are doing it..How they are doing it is different, and yes,it makes difference too.

Tell me the difference between me weeping and sleeping in my room, due to hunger and poverty and the same me taking a gun and ranting through media that 'unless you give me food,i am going to kill 29 people in my locality'..Which of above is likely to get any response..Yeah,bad example i know, but thatz how simple, yet complicated how things run around…

If I understand you right, I think this is what you feel:

      1. The state has ignored these people
      2. Violence is the only way they will get heard

      Is this correct?

I admit the government has ignored them, though I'm not sure to what extent.

But what about doing something for themselves? So much effort goes into fighting this war. So many motivated young men spending so much time, money and effort. What if they were to become entrepreneurs or do some other work? Migrate to another state to find work. It's not just the government's responsibility. They must do something as well no?

Also, one must accept that life isn't fair. If one person got a bad deal through no fault of their own, that doesn't give them the justification to take it out on me. Tomorrow my wife may be killed in a train bombing. She has never hurt anyone, and never oppressed anyone. There's no justification whatsoever.

Yeah, thatz how I understand and empathize it..

Agreed, there seem to be solutions as you said.. But if that was the case, earth would have been a beautiful place, with not many having issues with living life..but sadly,it is not so,forget about the world, even in our own country…

I don't know, but yes, conversation with you has convinced me that they are not that right as I thought it to be.. Thanks…

"Violence against innocents can never be excused."

Violence from which side? From part of state or from naxal side? when naxals do it,it is called terrorism, but when state does the same,it is called 'for the sake of progressiveness'…
