10 Things I'm not supposed to do…

IHM had started this tag where one is supposed to list things they’re not “supposed” to do because they’re either “girlish” or “manly.” At her urging, here’s my very own list of things I do that are considered “womanly” or not “manly” :

(I’m still not sure what I’m going to write! But I’m a writer – I’m supposed to get “inspired” :D )

  1. I just picked up a tag on things I do that are considered womanly
  2. I’d like to settle down in one place for life
  3. I’m not ambitious and will eagerly work less when I can earn the same amount
  4. I don’t kill anything if I can help it – even red ants that bite me
  5. I hate Robert Ludlum
  6. I think being “macho” looks ridiculous
  7. I like to get a chance to “grow” things
  8. 70% of the blogs I read are women’s blogs
  9. I abhor cars
  10. There’s almost no physical sport I enjoy – I like to watch Tennis though

Whew – that involved more thinking than I usually do for most of the stuff I write for a living! I’m sure I “miscategorized” a few points (I don’t know if most men abhor cars for example.)

It was quite a bit of fun actually :)

  1. I feel a much larger number of blogs atleast personal blogs are by women…. although one link said total number of blogs by women are only 51.9%. I guess a lot of men also have gadgets, politics, stock market and sports related blogs…. would love to have some stats on this.

If what you're saying is correct, there must be a reason why there are fewer personal blogs by men. Conversely, there must be a reason why there are fewer non-personal blogs by women!

      Is that another gender stereotype?

If the statistics truly show most female blogs (ignore the transferred epithet) are personal and most male blogs are non-personal, we can't call it a stereotype. It is something that needs to be explored.

  2. Nice list. Thanks for visiting my blog. The point you made in your comment is something that I have been arguing for years now, and I am glad to see it articulated so well.

  3. :D I thought I'd add a few more "girly" things about you that you forgot to mention:

    – You thoroughly enjoyed reading Anne of the Green Gables. (Didnt you even shed a tear or two??!!)

    – You hate a messy house. You cant sleep well if you know that the dishes are not done! You cant work in the room if the bed is not made every morning.

    – You have spent FAR more time in the kitchen than your wife has! :D

    – You dont drink or smoke. You hate the taste and smell of alcohol.

    – You dont drive and dont mind sitting behind your wife on the two wheeler as she drives you around town!

  4. Hey Bhagwad, you should change the name of this article from "10 Things I’m not supposed to do…" to "Bhagwad Exposed". Anyways that was on a lighter note. Thanks Anupa for the list. Will await more…

    Bhagwad, dear friend, keep writing…
